On May 18, 2025, HSE University hosted the Inter Football Cup. For the third year in a row HSE students and staff from different countries took part in the event. This tournament has become a real celebration not only for football fans, but also for anyone looking to meet new people and immerse themselves in the atmosphere of friendship and unity.
HSE RUN is a traditional HSE cultural and historical quest around Moscow organised by Ingroup StS, the university’s oldest student group. This year marks the 29th time the event is being held. The quest is conducted in both Russian and English. Teams of two to six people will set off on an exciting journey through the capital.
The All-Russian Karate Championship took place in Odintsovo, Moscow Region, bringing together over 2,000 participants from 42 regions of the country. Dmitry Konyaev, a second-year student in the Business Administration programme at the HSE Graduate School of Business, emerged victorious in the 18–20 age category, up to 65 kg weight class. He managed to outperform several dozen athletes representing top clubs from across Russia.
At the end of the winter season of the Russian Student Rowing League, the men's and women's rowing teams from HSE University achieved their best results. The men's crew became the bronze medallist of the winter season, and the women were one step away from the pedestal—in fourth place.
On April 7, university students and staff took part in a major Moscow race named April. Maxim Liksakov, a student at HSE University, managed to set a new competition record and win first place. HSE University Rector Nikita Anisimov, who also took part in the competition, congratulated Maksim on his victory.
Mixed-sex teams representing eight university faculties took part in the HSE Winter Tennis Cup, an interfaculty table tennis championship for international students. The team of the Faculty of Mathematics won the competition. The tournament was organised with the support of the Department of Internationalisation and the Department of Physical Training.
In early September, the HSE Rowing Club won silver medals of the international Golden Blades Regatta. HSE alumnus and HSE Rowing Club founder Anton Koshelev (’20, Faculty of World Economy and World Politics), who is now a Master’s student at the University of Munich, told the HSE News Service about the team’s creation, his hectic student-athlete schedule, and his dream of competing against Cambridge.
This year, the HSE Basketball League applied for MarSpo, a professional award in sports marketing, for the first time. And right away, the league was shortlisted in the ‘Best Marketing Project in Sports and Healthy Lifestyle Promotion: Game Sports’ category.
Every winter, HSE students and staff occupy the slope at the KANT skiing complex to organize the HSE Snow Fest. On this day, HSE students, HSE Lyceum students, and HSE staff together can go snowboarding and alpine skiing for free. In 2019, HSE Snow Fest takes place on February 10.
